When it comes to the budding dietary supplements nowadays, one of the most trusted and most effective is the fish oil. Fish oil has a considerable amount of the healthiest unsaturated fatty acid which is the omega-3. Omega-3 plays an important role in maintaining your health with a notable effect on your cardiovascular system.

Omega-3 isn’t an exclusive fatty acid in fishes. But this is where such fatty acids thrive bountiful. This is commonly found among fresh water fishes such as the salmon and  to mackerel to name a few. A regular consumption of these fishes shall give you the omega-3 you would need in a daily basis. But since not all of us are fond of eating it, and mostly all of us needed omega-3, fish oil supplements were created.


There are two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids that are responsible for such health effects. These are the EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid). EPA is the one responsible in the protein synthesis while DHA is the fatty acid abundant in the brain and is responsible for modulating the carrier-mediated transport of choline, glycine, and taurine.

Research is also being conducted to increase the anti-inflammatory reputation of fish oil, particularly when combined with other dietary supplements and drugs.

  • Improves brain health.

The presence of DHA in fish oils makes this possible. As we have observed, DHA is one of the important substances in our brain. With your daily intake of fish oil, you’ll be assured that enough DHA is present in your brain and thus improving your brain health. The effect of DHA on brain health seems to continue throughout life. Some research points at DHA consumption as an important tool in warding off Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive diseases.

These are the most apparent health benefits of fish oil.  But don’t forget the saying that too much of anything is dangerous. If you consume too much of what’s recommended for you, you might suffer some allergies and other health concerns. So take your fish oil in enough dosage. Regulate your intake based on your needs.
