And since our nervous system functions as the core of our being, our performance in our day-to-day lives can very much get affected if the system gets constant abuse otherwise. With that being said, the need to boost our mental health must be observed.

One of the most effective and easiest way to boost our mental health is through eating foods that are proven to be effective sources of nutrients that bring positive returns to the brain. • Wild salmon

Wild salmon is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids composed of DHA and EPA which are the good fats in our brain and are essential in its function. The fact that salmons are easy to find makes it a must buy for you if you wanted to boost your mental health. A good 4-ounce serving a day can suffice your brain’s needs so try to incorporate it in your everyday meal.

  • Nuts and edible seeds

Most of these nuts and edible seeds available in the market are good sources of vitamin E. As we all know, Vitamin E revitalizes body cells and this includes the brain cells. Hence, having your dose of Vitamin E aids in less cognitive decline as you age up. Add an ounce of walnuts, hazelnuts, filberts, almonds, cashews, peanuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds and any other derivatives of nuts and seeds in your meal.

  • Blueberries

Also called “brainberries“, these delightful berries are very potent aids in boosting your mental health. This berry helps in protecting the brain from oxidative stress and may reduce the effects of age-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. Also, based on a study, blueberries  improve  motor skills and learning capacity; both of which being essential factors in boosting mental health.

  • Avocados

This milky and yummy treat is almost as good as blueberries in promoting your mental health. The monosaturated fat in this fruit contributes to healthy blood flow which helps in alerting your brain and making it work to the fullest. Avocados are high in calories so it’s better to limit your serving to about ¼ or ½ of an avocado to each meal as a side dish.

  • Whole grains

This easy to find and healthy treat is also a good food for your brain. As we all know, whole grains such as oatmeal, whole grain bread and brown rice can reduce the risk of heart disease which in turn improves the performance of your heart and your blood flow. Just like the avocado, a healthy heart promotes a healthy brain and reverse. Some of the wheat germs even contain vitamin E and  omega-3 fatty acids.
